We are in the MIDST of summer! #HOLLADOLLA! I remember adventuring into the subway tunnels for the first time since arriving to NYC and the hot, sweaty, glorious stench of down under going through my nose! Ahhh NYC! HAHAHA I am kidding! Well it is still hot you guys (this humidity is something else) but last week I got to explore a bit more of the glamorous side of a NYC Summer with Tidal New York Flip Flops featuring their “TOO HOT” collaboration collection with Female Power Artist Amber Vittoria at the Bowery Hotel!
Amber Vittoria has had work featured in The New York Times, Gucci, Adidas, Condé Nast, and Man Repeller to name a few! The “Too Hot” Tidal New York Collection features three of Amber’s illustrations that each represent how females in NYC feel during those hot, sweaty, glorious moments! I can attest, this is women all over the world when it is hot! Amber used some corals, emeralds and other summery hues to pigment the “too hot” feeling. Some of the sayings were “Too hot to shave, too hot to move from a bed of flowers in Central Park, and too hot to change into a new outfit before heading out in the evening.” I will admit, I have done two of the above three things. I will let you guess at which two :)!
If you’re a woman, you probably relate with seeing a magazine or some other type of advertisement with a completely unrealistic depiction of a woman that has somehow crept into our society as an expectation for all women. Well, it is refreshing to hear Amber state “My work aims to depict women from a more accurate woman’s perspective.” AMEN! PTL! Set the stage for more artists like this! Get it Amber!
At the party last week, Claire gave me the low down hoedown on the actual build and make of the flip flops. I had NO IDEA that so much work went into the design and manufacturing process!
First of all, the flip flops are made from the same material that is used for high-performance running shoes so your feet feel supported! #Highperformancerunningshoematerial in FLIP FLOP Y’ALL! #YESPLEASE SO COOL! If you’re all for things things made in America, they’re made in New Rochelle, NY! It takes 6 people to make one pair of flip flops and most of the staff are veterans of the U.S. armed forces! #solute
Finally, Tidal New York sees beyond the job and values career! One of their long term goals is to have ethical sourcing and manufacturing to be a brand standard!
I think that is incredible how Tidal New York has tied so many things into their brand, from portraying artwork representing real women, to helping veterans, this is so neat I had to share!
