NYFW AVERY VERSE SS19 and Vegetable Tanned Leather

New York Fashion Week is one of the weeks during Fashion Month where people are inspired to find future trends and new techniques of creating masterpieces that people will wear. This season, I was able to attend the Avery Verse fashion show which specializes in luxury fashion handbags but they’re also more eco-friendly as their leather bags are vegetable tanned leather! Avery Verse is definitely a designer to watch for handbags!

Below, I have my favorite looks (clothing from Graziela Label) and a little about how Avery Verse (bags) achieves a more sustainable alternative for their leather bags.

The first look, is this pink tank top with shorts (or romper) which is right up my alley! It’s girly and it looks like it’s really soft. Paired with the Journo shoulder bag, this is a bag that I can see one wearing on a casual day when you just need to carry the important stuff!

This dual tone navy dress is absolutely stunning and ideal with the green Avery Verse Sublime handbag.

Silk and satin are definitely some of my favorite pieces when it comes to clothing because a it’s very soft, and it it doesn’t irritate my skin when I have eczema flare ups. It’s a way to look classy and comfortable without feeling itchy. The satin top with these business pants are greatly paired with the Avery tote aka your travel buddy. A tote bag is a very practical investment piece especially for people like me who have business on the go. I am either holding my laptop, camera and lenses, or an extra pair of shoes for commuting and this bag looks like it was designed to fit it all, even if you’re catching a plane!

Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

A classic black tote! That is perfection! Definitely adding some chic spunk to this beautiful beige look. This smaller tote looks classic for going from work to happy hour!

This yellow dress is giving me straight up Beyoncé vibes right here!   The Avery Verse Urban Stroll is a contrasted complimentary addition to the outfit. This bag makes me think of a fall walk through Central Park! I really love cross-body bags because they’re easy. Simply just putting it over your shoulder and heading out the door you’re ready to be productive!

My absolute favorite look from the Avery Verse show is this beautiful vivid Avery Verse Ballad handbag! This bag is giving me summery vibes in Spain. It’s a summer night out with the girls! You all know how much I appreciate color and this bag is definitely giving me my color fix! It’s not every day that you see a vibrant and well crafted hand bag.

3 Ways to Tan Leather

Animal skins are degreased and the hair is plucked before the tanning process begins. The skin is then soaked in water for a period of time. After the animal skins are prepared, the skins go through the tanning process. Tanning is the process by which animal skins are converted to leather by altering the protein structure of the skin.

The first type of tanning is called Chrome-tanning, which is most commonly used in the fashion industry. This is where chromium salts are used to tan the leather. While this is a very fast way of tanning the leather, the Chrome salts are toxic for the environment. Chrome

The second type of leather tanning is Aldehyde-tanning which uses formaldehyde as the chemical base to do the tanning process. This process is also fast, and normally used in the automative, clothing and footwear industries. Although Aldehyde-tanning can be referred to as the “chromium-free” option, it is still harmful to the environment and human health.

The final method of tanning leather is Vegetable tanning which is the technique that the Avery Verse company chooses. This is the process in which the skin is soaked in organic material from certain plant species and then painted.
